The Best Poppers for Beginners

Within the past two weeks I’ve had no less than four friends approach me asking for advice on what the best poppers for beginners are. While this is a good sign if you work at a popper company, and while I’m more than happy to help a friend out - it does mean I’ve given the same lecture multiple times now.

So, partly as this is clearly a topic on a few people’s minds, and partly to save my future self some time - let’s assume you’re new to all this and take a look at what the best poppers for beginners are. While we’re at it, we’ll cover a few other things that would be helpful for you to know!

Propyl are the best poppers for beginners

If we’re getting technical, there’s a small handful of different popper formulas. This might get a bit overwhelming for someone new to poppers, so to be upfront about it: Propyl poppers are the best formula for beginners.

You’re presumably going to ask why this is though - so let’s break this down a little further. When we’re talking about how poppers work and their effects, there’s three main things to consider:

  1. Potency - this is the overall strength of the poppers. Out of all the formulas of poppers, Propyl has the lowest potency.

  2. Time-to-peak - the time it takes for poppers to take effect after use. While some poppers slowly build up in strength, Propyl poppers reach their peak after just a few seconds. This keeps the user in full control.

  3. Action length - the time the poppers are active for. Propyl poppers hit fast, but also wear off fast as well.

While Propyl aren’t necessarily ‘weak’ (they are still poppers after all), on a scale of strength, they’re on the lower end for poppers. With their fast time-to-peak combined with their short action length, you can be comfortably in control using Propyl poppers. All these things make Propyl poppers ideal for beginners.

Beginner friendly popper recommendations

So we’ve established that Propyl poppers are the best for beginners, let's talk through some specific bottle recommendations now!

Let’s begin with the popper bottle that launched it all. We can’t do this without tooting our own horn, afterall. Twisted Beast Original was the very first bottle we created, and it catapulted us onto the scene. We wouldn’t be where we are now without it. The response was so positive that we’ve stuck around ever since. You can get Twisted Beast Original in a 24ml bottle, or a smaller 10ml bottle, if you’re really just wanting to dip your toes in.

Fisting! We’re well aware of poppers’ prominence in fisting communities. For that very reason we made a line of poppers to help you with just that. Fist Fuck Propyl will help with relaxing and opening you up, and have you taking a fist in no time at all. Fist Fuck also comes in a stronger form of Pentyl and Amyl Nitrite, but our Propyl formula is more than enough for the uninitiated who’s looking to get started with both poppers and fisting.

Crave sucking dick? Love drooling spilling down your chin? Skull Fuck Ruby poppers begin melting your brain in no time at all, entering you into that feral headspace where you want nothing more than to have your throat used like the toy you know you are. Gooning potential aside, we’re also pretty fond of this one’s bottle.

Amsterdam Poppers have been around for quite some time now, gradually gaining favour in mainland Europe over the decades. In a parallel story to our own, this legacy brand also launched their original popper brand with a gentler Propyl formula. You’re in safe hands with poppers that have withstood the test of time for this long, so their original 10ml formula makes our recommended list for beginners.

How do I look after my poppers?

Like any many other things in life, look after your poppers and they’ll last a lot longer. Generally after opening, poppers will remain strong anywhere between one to three months. Anything after this and you’ll start noticing the potency of your poppers decreasing. This might be accompanied by a change in smell, so make sure to watch out for that as well.

We have a full guide on how to make your poppers last longer, but in a pinch, follow these four rules:

  1. Keep your poppers upright - poppers are corrosive by nature and will start eating away at the seal keeping them airtight otherwise.

  2. Minimise light exposure - that dark brown bottle isn’t just for show. UV waves will speed up the degradation of your poppers, so make sure they’re somewhere the sun don't shine.

  3. Store somewhere cool - heat and poppers don’t mix. While room temperature is generally fine, if you live somewhere warm or want to store your poppers for longer periods of time, consider a fridge.

  4. Limit contact with oxygen - it’s not just heat and light that want to degrade your poppers, the very air we breathe does as well. Replace that lid in between uses!

Is Propyl just for beginners?

No! Propyl poppers can be used by anyone. While Propyl poppers make a good introduction to beginners due to their weaker strength, more experienced users may use them for any number of reasons.

A more regular popper user might just generally feel like not going too hard one day. Another reason may be to gradually build up the strength of their poppers and switch to Pentyl or Amyl after using Propyl for a little bit.

Alternatively, due to their weaker potency and fast action time, Propyl poppers lend themselves well to controlled chain use to increase their overall strength!

What can I move onto after Propyl?

There’s an ever increasing number of popper formulas hitting the shelves lately, but for ease sake here, we’ll focus on the main two besides Propyl. Amyl Nitrite and Pentyl Nitrite are generally what make up the bulk of poppers you’ll find on shelves and online. Both formulas are rather different from each other, so let’s break them down:

  • Pentyl Poppers - perhaps the natural progression from Propyl. Pentyl poppers work basically the same as Propyl, but with a stronger potency. Pentyl poppers will hit hard and fast, and wear off relatively quickly as well.
  • Amyl Poppers - the original popper formula from the 70’s. Compared to Propyl, you’ll find Amyl poppers have a much stronger potency, with a slow build up over time and last a lot longer to boot.

If you’re looking for a more in depth description on these formulas, and some of the more niche, newer formulas, you can check out our blog on the different types of poppers.

Where to buy Propyl poppers?

Depending on where you live, poppers can either be bought online or in a physical store. Store wise, you’ll often find poppers in sex and fetish stores, and sometimes some smaller corner stores / general stores. There’s a couple of issues you may run into with physical stores. First of all, the range of poppers available is often not the best. More importantly though, there’s no way to tell how long the poppers have been left on the shelf for. There’s a chance you’ll receive an old bottle that’s already started to lose its strength. We have a bit more on where to buy poppers here.

We’d obviously recommend buying your poppers online. Twisted Beast ships worldwide with discreet shipping - your secrets are safe with us!

Although leaks and lost deliveries are exceedingly rare, we importantly guarantee safe delivery of all orders and ship all orders made before 13:00 GMT during the week the same day.

And there we have it! That should be all you need to know to get yourself started. We have a wealth of information throughout our site, so check out our popper guides if you have any other questions or get in contact with us. Happy bating!
