How To Treat Popper Burns

How To Treat Popper Burns

Poppers come in all kinds of bottle shapes, formulas and brands but one thing remains the same: you can get burnt by them all if you’re not careful.

Popper burns most commonly appear as red markings around the skin, lips or nose, alongside a stinging sensation too. We are going to assume that if you're reading this, you've had a session that's gone a little sideways and had some unintended consequences. So, let’s get those popper burns sorted, you dumb slut.

Immediately Treating Your Popper Burn

So, here's the situation: you've just had a great experience with a bottle of poppers and now you notice your skin has become irritated under your nose/wherever it's been spilt. What should you do?

Like most burns, acting quickly is important to making sure you give yourself the best chance of treating the area effectively. Firstly, don't panic. Instead, prioritize these three steps to begin:

  1. Remove the contaminated clothes & dont rub the area - If you've spilt it over your clothes/bed take them off,- you don't want to ruin your clothes too!

  2. Rinse under cool water - Just like standard burns leave the affected area under cold water for at least 20 minutes. Rinsing your skin of any excess chemicals will give you the best and quickest chance at healing the area.

  3. Clean the area - Once you’ve rinsed your skin under cold water, now is the time to clean the wound. Using only mild soap and water, gently clean the affected area and make sure to pat it dry afterwards. Do not use harsh cleaners, this could irritate the skin even further.

Treating The Skin Post Popper Burn (Moisturise Moisturise Moisturise!)

If there's one thing you can pull away from this guide today, make it to keep the area of skin well moisturised. If you've experienced a mild popper burn or skin irritation, treating the area like you would a superficial burn can go a long way in healing it. Once you've followed all of those steps above, now's the time to apply aloe vera gel or cream. Aloe vera will calm irritated skin, promoting healing and to reduce any inflammation. It is your magic bullet for popper burns.

If you don't have any aloe vera to hand, vaseline (or other petroleum jelly) can also be used to treat the skin in a pinch. They will act as a second barrier to the skin, lock in moisture and prevent further irritation to the skin. Keeping your skin moisturised whilst its healing after a popper burn can minimise dryness, reduce discomfort and promote faster skin recovery. So keep your shit moisturised!

Managing Pain

Most burns you’ll get from poppers will be superficial, but the pain may still feel bad. If you've followed all the steps up top and it still stings, give your standard pain relief tablets a go. If your pain continues to heighten or stick around more than you were expecting this is when you should seek medical attention.

Here are three telltale signs that you should seek professional help after getting a poppers burn

  1. Signs of infection - if there's a spreading redness, increased warmth around the affected area and pus. Look out for developing large blisters as well.

  2. The pain worsens - If the pain gets worse, especially after pain relief is taken.

  3. If you've got liquid in your eyes or around your genitals - Nitrites and other chemicals found in poppers can cause severe damage in direct contact with your eyes & other sensitive areas. If this does happen - immediately flush your eye(s)/ the affected area and go to seek professional help.

Preventing Future Popper Burns

We wouldn't be a decent guide if we just left you to deal with the aftermath of popper burns. So now we've gone over how to treat, this is how you can prevent those burns and get back to getting fucked up.

First up - invest in a Super Sniffer! These bad boys are going to minimise your contact with the bottle top by a significant amount, with the added bonus of making your poppers hit like a truck. It works by replacing the cap that would be on top of the bottle, so you won’t be fumbling about with caps whilst you're melting your brain.

Second is to whip some vaseline under your nose before you start. The same point we talked about earlier during treatment also works to prevent it. Vaseline will act as a small layer of protection under your nose that will prevent any burns. It may not be glamorous, but it's much nicer than red skin when you're trying to be a dumb slut.

Finally, if super sniffers aren't for you, try wiping the top of your bottle after you unscrew it. Most superficial popper burns come from residual liquid around the rim. Once you've unscrewed a bottle, wipe it off with a cloth or paper towel (not your hands, you animal). You will be thanking us later.
